Rostbratwurst, also known as grilled bratwurst, is a traditional German sausage made from pork and beef. The sausage is seasoned with a blend of spices, including ginger, nutmeg, and caraway, and is traditionally grilled over an open flame.
- 1 lb pork and beef ground meat
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp ground coriander
- 1/4 tsp ground mace
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- Natural hog or sheep casings
- In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, salt, and spices. Mix well.
- Using a sausage stuffer or a meat grinder with a sausage stuffing attachment, fill the casings with the meat mixture.
- Twist the sausages every 4 inches to form individual sausages.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Grill the sausages for 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
- Serve on a bun with mustard or sauerkraut and enjoy!
