Zwiebel Spätzle is a traditional German dish made of homemade egg noodles, caramelized onions, and a sprinkle of parsley. This dish is hearty and comforting, perfect for a cold winter day.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, eggs, milk, and salt. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
- Let the dough rest for about 15 minutes.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Using a spaetzle maker or a colander, press the dough through the holes and drop the spaetzle into the boiling water.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes or until the spaetzle float to the surface, then drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and cook until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
- Add the cooked spätzle to the skillet with the onions and toss to combine.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.
