Zwiebel Spätzle

Zwiebel Spätzle is a traditional German dish made of homemade egg noodles, caramelized onions, and a sprinkle of parsley. This dish is hearty and comforting, perfect for a cold winter day.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, eggs, milk, and salt. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  2. Let the dough rest for about 15 minutes.
  3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  4. Using a spaetzle maker or a colander, press the dough through the holes and drop the spaetzle into the boiling water.
  5. Cook for about 2-3 minutes or until the spaetzle float to the surface, then drain and set aside.
  6. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  7. Add the sliced onions and cook until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
  8. Add the cooked spätzle to the skillet with the onions and toss to combine.
  9. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.
