Pasticcio di Maccheroni

Pasticcio di Maccheroni is an Italian dish also known as “macaroni pie” or “lasagna” made of layers of cooked pasta, typically macaroni, mixed with a meat or vegetable-based sauce, and a béchamel sauce, and then baked in the oven until golden brown and bubbly. It is a hearty and comforting dish that can be served as a main course.

Recipe: Ingredients:

  • 1 lb macaroni
  • 2 cups meat or vegetable-based sauce
  • 2 cups béchamel sauce
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Butter (for greasing the dish)


  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions and drain.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni, meat or vegetable-based sauce, and béchamel sauce. Mix well.
  4. Spread a layer of the macaroni mixture in the bottom of the prepared dish. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
  5. Repeat layering the macaroni mixture and Parmesan cheese until all the ingredients are used up.
  6. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
