Pasticcio di Maccheroni is an Italian dish also known as “macaroni pie” or “lasagna” made of layers of cooked pasta, typically macaroni, mixed with a meat or vegetable-based sauce, and a béchamel sauce, and then baked in the oven until golden brown and bubbly. It is a hearty and comforting dish that can be served as a main course.
Recipe: Ingredients:
- 1 lb macaroni
- 2 cups meat or vegetable-based sauce
- 2 cups béchamel sauce
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Butter (for greasing the dish)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
- Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions and drain.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni, meat or vegetable-based sauce, and béchamel sauce. Mix well.
- Spread a layer of the macaroni mixture in the bottom of the prepared dish. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Repeat layering the macaroni mixture and Parmesan cheese until all the ingredients are used up.
- Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
