Frittura di Calamari is a dish that consists of deep-fried squid. The squid is typically cleaned, sliced into rings, and then coated in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs before being fried in hot oil. The dish is often served as an appetizer or a second course, and a side of lemon wedges or a dipping sauce, such as aioli, usually accompanies it. Ingredients:
- 1 pound of cleaned squid, sliced into rings
- 1 cup of flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup of breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions:
- In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, and pepper.
- In a separate shallow dish, beat the eggs.
- In a third shallow dish, place the breadcrumbs.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or deep fryer to 350 F (175 C).
- Dredge the squid rings in the flour mixture, dip them in the beaten eggs, and coat them in the breadcrumbs.
- Carefully drop the squid rings into the hot oil and fry them for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove the squid rings from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Season with salt and pepper while still hot.
- Serve the fried calamari with lemon wedges on the side.
Note: You can also serve it with a dipping sauce like aioli or marinara sauce.
